DAILY MIRROR: OPINION: Keeping siblings together’ Advocacy effort by SOS Sri Lanka

Strong article: So far, children seem to have gone a bit under our radar but this is a crucial segment of our society as the inheritors of whatever legacy good or bad that we give them.  A very large component of my personal energy is spent for kids and I know that institutions such as SOS have done yeoman service for orphans and semi-orphans (i.e. those whose parents are alive, identified but incapable of looking after their kids and reluctant to put them in foster care)

ISLAND: BUSINESS:  ‘Golden Rays on the Dark Moon’

This is a book review. I don't know how it landed in the business section. However, it reminds people of the sustainability we enjoyed in the past and how we have lost that societal durability due to forgetting our sustainable, cultural/heritage roots and routes.

DAILY NEWS: FEATURES:  How to Change Your Eating Patterns

This identifies some areas where there can be "habits that are difficult to break" and how to overcome them. Key is that it speaks of the fact that "health" is a confusing term when related to food with many claims.

ARTICLE ALERT: I think we should write an article to the news papers on what actually constitutes health foods for Sri Lankans and tie it into the ayurvedic system (madhura, amla, lavana, thithta, kaktuka, kasaya).

DAILY NEWS: FEATURES: President, PM vow unabated development drive

This is a good overall coverage of the development side issues addressed by the various parties although it has quite a lot of political stuff inside as well.

ISLAND: OPINION: Are development priorities the Best for our People?

Dr. Pethiyagoda makes a good case for striking a balance between import substitution and export, " a sensible mix of self-sufficiency and export enterprise".

MIRROR: NEWS: India pledges help to construct expressways

I think we are not all that happy about these expressways but this is FYI.
